ARTROでは11月17日(木)〜12月18日(日)までGalerie Supermarktとのコラボレーション展示として傅斯特（Fu Site）と 毛冠帅（Mao Guanshuai）による二人展「interplay of shapes」を開催致します。 Fu SiteとMao Guanshuaiの作品は、具象表現と抽象表現の揺らぎの中で形になる前の形のような「本質」をそれぞれの方法で探求しております。 本展では、フランスと中国をそれぞれベースに活動する作家の作品を築100年以上の伝統的な蔵を改装した展示スペースARTROにて展示をすることで、その場の特徴を汲み取ったサイトスペシフィックなキュレーションを試みます。 Fu Siteは中国に生まれ現在はフランスを拠点として作家活動をしております。 Fu Siteの絵画作品は、現実と夢の間のような幻想的で超現実的（シュルレアリスム的）な雰囲気を纏っており、具象と抽象の間を軽やかに揺らいでいます。そのため、Fu Siteの作品に描かれたイメージは鑑賞者の中であらゆる定義やカテゴリーから逃れ、分類されることなく漂います。ピーテル・パウル・ルーベンスの絵画を見た際に、そこから抽象画の要素を感じ取ったと言う作家の作品は、具象的なイメージの背後にある抽象性、抽象的なイメージの中にある具象性を探っており表裏一体の面を持ちます。また、絵画や映画の一場面などあらゆるイメージをコンピューターを用いて再解釈することによって構成することによって描かれた作品のイメージは、超現実的な雰囲気を纏いながらも現実とのつながりを持ちその均衡を保っているかのようです。 Mao Guanshuaiは、中国寧波に生まれ現在は上海を拠点に活動しており、主に木彫刻作品を制作しております。 2013年より木彫作品を作り始めたという作家は、木という素材の質感を生かしながら私達の現実世界には存在しないような造形を彫り出すことを試みております。「もの」自体に宿る本質を木彫の特徴を昇華させ造形しておりますが、もの自体の「本質」というとても抽象的テーマを扱いつつも、作家は現代の若者を囲む刺激的な社会からインスピレーションを受けており作品自体は現代的な感覚に溢れています。Mao Guanshuaiは、鑑賞者が作品を見る際に認識する具象的な解釈を秘めることで、例えば花が開き、竹の節が伸びていく予感のような抽象と具象の間の調和を象徴的に表現しています。 私達は、生きていく中で身の回りの物事に名前をつけカテゴライズし秩序を作ることで世界を認識していますが、Fu SiteとMao Guanshuaiは、それらのラベルが貼り付けられる前の捉え難いが確かにそこに在る「本質」を抽象表現と具象表現の調和の中で探求しています。 ホワイトキューブとは趣を異にするARTROの陰の中で両作家の形の戯れと空間との調和を是非ご高覧いただけますと幸いです。 An exhibition, “interplay of shapes,” will be held by Fu Site and Mao Guanshuai from November 17th to December 18th. Guanshuai’s works explore in their own way the “essence” of the form before it takes shape within the fluctuation between figurative and abstract expression. In this exhibition, we will present works by artists based in France and China in the exhibition space ARTRO, a renovated 100-year-old traditional warehouse, in an attempt to create a site-specific curation that incorporates the unique characteristics of the space. Fu Site was born in China and currently lives and works in France, and his paintings have an illusory and surrealistic atmosphere, somewhere between reality and dreams, and oscillate freely between figuration and abstraction. The images depicted in Fu Site’s paintings therefore escape all definitions and categories, floating in the viewer’s mind without being categorized. The work of the artist, who said he sensed elements of abstraction in the paintings of Pieter Paul Rubens, explores the abstraction behind the figurative image and the figuration within the abstract image. The images in his paintings, which are composed by computer-generated reinterpretations of paintings, movie scenes, and other images, seem to maintain a balance between a surrealistic atmosphere and a realistic connection to our reality. Mao Guanshuai, born in Ningbo, China and currently based in Shanghai, mainly creates wood carvings. Mao Guanshuai’s work is full of contemporary sensibilities, inspired by the stimulating society that surrounds young people today, while dealing with the very abstract theme of the “essence” of things themselves. Mao Guanshuai symbolically expresses the harmony between the abstract and the figurative, such as the premonition of a flower opening and a bamboo joint growing, by concealing the figurative interpretation that the viewer perceives as a symbol when looking at the work. We recognize the world by putting names and categorizing and organizing the things around us in our daily lives, but Fu Site and Mao Guanshuai explore the “essence” that exists before these labels are attached, in a harmony of abstract and figurative expressions. We hope you will enjoy the harmony of the two artists’ play of forms and space in the shadow of ARTRO.
